Fee Fi Fo Fum

The classic fairy tale about the hapless boy who sold his cow for magic beans has been brought to virtual reality. Climb into your headset and experience the tale from the inside.

Experience the Fairy Tale

Essentially The Beanstalk is an interactive story. There are things for you to do, but you're not really affecting the game world as such. You play through part of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale. You'll find yourself climbing, shrinking, planting, and performing a number of tasks that move you through the story. The art style is an interesting cartoonish mixture of 2D and 3D (picture cardboard cutout trees) and works very well in the context of the game. The game doesn't actually tell the whole tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, but then again it originated as a student project that the aforementioned students decided to release for all to see. As such, they released it for free. Which was nice of them. But that origin does go some way to explaining why there's an air of tech demo about it.

Why Not?

Okay, there's not much game, it's not very long, and it doesn't tell the whole story. But it looks nice, tells the bit of story it does tell very well, and is free. You can't really go wrong.

PROS

  • Nice art style
  • Good retelling of a classic tale

CONS

  • Short
  • Doesn't tell the whole story
